The deadline for entries to the Brewers Guild Beer Writer of the Year Award is fast approaching, with submissions due on Friday 6 June.

Won last year by Michael Donaldson for his book Beer Nation, this award aims to recognise outstanding contribution in the media by any individual.

The award may be given for one outstanding contribution or a collection of contributions that together demonstrate an outstanding annual portfolio across a range or combination of media. Contribution in the media is not restricted to any one media format and may include a combination of print, television, film or social media amongst others.

Contributions must centre on beer, brewing and/or closely related industry or issues surrounding them. There is no caveat that articles necessarily show the brewing industry in a positive light but contributions should be informative, educational and/or entertaining. All material must have been made publicly available from 1 May to 30 April over the year preceding the award.

Applicants are asked to submit articles or portfolios. Submissions must include copies or links to articles as appropriate, a list of the articles that are to be considered for judging and a brief cover letter explaining why the applicant merits the award of Brewers Guild of New Zealand Beer Writer of the Year.

Entries must be received by Friday 6 June 2014.

Submissions should be sent via email by Friday 6 June to:

      1. Thanks, but I’m still not worthy to be in some of the company above. They actually work hard at writing regularly. I’m just a reactionary bugger with lots of opinions. Now, why aren’t you nominating yourself? I’d argue your blog this year has started more conversations and had a bigger effect on the industry than most others. It’s good to see Dominic in the list too. I love that you guys research and think about the hard issues and write about them with no punches pulled.

        1. And I’m not reactionary? I didn’t know whether to add myself or not, so have left myself out. With your comment that is now four people so far indicating I should be on the poll. Do I or don’t I add myself? I think Dom has posted a couple of really great pieces.

  1. Luke, you have done more for the craft beer movement then any of these guys. Some of these guys like you work in the industry and push their own agenda and ideas to profit themselves. You have not once pushed your own in any of your postings on this new luke.co.nz. Please allow the members of the guild and us non members to nominate you as writer of the year…… Beerhive would be second choice…..

  2. I write about beer as a drinker and discoverer and as a hobby.

I don’t seek gain or recognition and do read most if the writings of the poll group. Some of which is great, some not so, some with a lot if industry and relevant knowledge and some is cut and paste.

Like it or not I think you are leading the pack though. And I will drink to that.
